Volkswagen’s Jetta and Passat sedan were designed with the American market in mind, and Volkswagen is hoping to boost sales to an astronomical 800,000 units in the United States, as it aims for global dominance of the automotive sector. While vehicles like the Routan minivan have been a flop, their Touraeg and Tiguan SUVs, Golf hatchback, GTI hot hatch, CC sports sedan  and of course, the Beetle have long been venerated by critics and enthusiasts.
Volkswagen has come a long way since the Beetle was introduced to America in the 1960s. For a long time, they were a marginal but premium brand positioned as the darling of enthusiasts on a budget. This didn’t translate into sales, and the company has re-positioned themselves as a volume player, selling affordable mainstream cars with the cachet of a European brand. Their strategy seems to be working, as the new Jetta has been a sales success despite being panned by critics as a betrayal of everything the previous Jetta stood for. Products like the GTI and GLI sport compacts have long been bright spots in Volkswagen’s lineup, and their current crop of products seems to have resonated with a consumer base that ignored VW for a time.
The ‘True Life Costs’ website aims to show that the little things really do add up over the months and years, and that Volkswagen understand this. For example, what if your choice of daily sandwich affected where you could afford to go on holiday? This led to the big question: What will your whole life cost you?
To tackle this pretty scary question, Tribal DDB UK created a miniature representation of life; a model village populated by tiny, stop motion-animated inhabitants. One key element was how the quality of the online experience would be taken to reflect the quality of the cars. It had to be solid and well designed, without losing any of the playful and tactile art direction that makes it accessible. The vista was shot using a tilt-shift style to exaggerate the small scale feel. Multiple camera passes allowed the agency to incorporate the streets and buildings into an interactive environment. As visitors explore they’re encouraged to re-evaluate their living and domestic decisions and ultimately calculate their ‘Total Life Cost’.  Ordinary costs are put under the microscope as visitors contemplate the value of their choices and are encouraged to share and compare their often surprising Cost Report with their friends on Facebook.
Volkswagen’s sustained effort to reposition it’s Skoda brand so that it sits lower than it’s VW brand has angered Skoda dealers across Europe.
Reducing the level of standard equipment on the Skoda is hurting customer satisfaction as well as making them angry, said Thomas Peckruhn, chairman of the Skoda dealer association.
Volkswagen top management believe that the Skoda brand has moved too close to its main brand and is therefore luring customers away from VW models such as the Polo and Golf.
At the Paris Motor Show, when asked about the issue of Skoda, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn retorted “We cannot have a Skoda Fabia with a higher value instrument panel than the VW Polo.”  He went on to say that VW will reduce Skoda production costs by cutting back on equipment levels.
Skoda is VW Group’s entry level brand but the technically similar VW models cost thousands of Euros more than a comparable Skoda.
Obviously, Skoda dealers do not agree with Winterkorn.
“We conquer customers from French brands such as Peugeot and Renault, including Dacia,” Peckruhn said. He also said Skoda will lose sales if its cars are de-contented. “It is impossible to believe that customers will not notice something like that.”
As an example, Skoda’s semi-automatic climate control system with a cooled glove box has been removed even though it is a popular selling point in dealerships. VW have also removed other standard features such as the umbrella that was integrated into the rear door of the Superb.
Its expected that other standard items will be moved to the options list, further angering Skoda dealerships.
As most of us know German Automobile Giant Volkswagen Group comprises of Skoda, Audi & Porsche. Unlikely the International Markets in India Volkswagen & Skoda runs head-to-head but now Volkswagen India have decided to Follow up the International trend & Re-Position Volkswagen as a Premium brand as compared to Skoda.

BMW 640d Gran Coupe at INR 86.40 Lakhs.........


This is the First 4-Doored Coupe in the 1976 launched Super-Successful BMW 6 Series Catalogue.

First showcased as a production ready model at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, the Gran Coupe is BMW’s larger iteration of the already established 6 Series Coupe that really sizzled up things in the GT space and introduced an all new dimension to luxury travel in the country.

However, looking to give worthy competition to its arch German rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi, who have already drawn first blood with offerings like the CLS350 Coupe and A7 Sportback, BMW has now launched its four-door version of the 6 Series sedan, namely the Gran Coupe.

Built on pretty much the same rear-wheel drive platform as most current generation Bimmers the  6-Series Gran Coupe achieves its larger proportions with a longer wheelbase measuring 2968mm as opposed to the 2780mm wheelbase of the 6 Series Coupe and Convertible and a length that is now barely 0.6 inches lesser than flagship 7-series sedan.
The 6 series Gran Coupe (Read : BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe First Drive) uses a TwinPower Turbo diesel engine that has been tuned to offer great drive dynamics as well and enhanced fuel efficiency. The 2,993cc diesel unit on the new 640d has a 6 cylinder layout and offers 317PS @ 4400rpm and a solid 630 Nm of torque between 1,500-2,500rpm. Mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox it can hit a top speed of 250 km/hr.

The 6 Series Gran Coupe’s larger proportions apart from accommodating five people also gains a practical edge thanks to the 40:60 split folding rear seats that increases luggage space from the standard 460 litres to a solid 1,265 litres. 

The advanced HUD (heads up display) unit inside the Bigger Bimmer clearly displays detailed navigation information, night vision with pedestrian recognition, surround view and a reverse parking camera. Driver and passenger comfort features also include a high-end Bang & Olufsen surround sound system, 2-zone climate controlled air conditioning, cruise control, paddle shifts, electronically adjustable seats and a numerous other aids to ensure that you travel in the lap of luxury.

BMW is asking for Rs 86.40 lakh (ex-showroom India) for all the practicality, style and indulgence that is the new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. It will sell as a single diesel 640d variant with three optional packages depending on the customers needs. Expect a massive CBU onslaught by BMW in India in 2013 beginning with new 7 Series, the stunning X6, the X1 and finally the 1- series!
BMW has launched the four-door version of the 6-Series in India called the Gran Coupe for Rs 86.40 lakh (ex-showroom prices for India). The new model will directly compete with the Audi A7 and the Mercedes-Benz CLS.
The 6-Series Gran Coupe 640d is powered by same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine from the Coupe version, developing 313bhp and 630Nm of torque. It is mated to eight-speed automatic gearbox and is capable of reaching 100kph from standstill in 5.4 seconds.
BMW is also offering the Gran Coupe with three optional trims – Individual Package, M Sport Package and Luxury Package. The new car can be booked through all BMW dealerships in India and is available in nine colours – Alpine White (non metallic), Black Sapphire, Deep Sea Blue, Havanna, Mineral White Orion Silver, Space Grey, Titanium Silver and Vermillion Red.


 The German Beauty is powered by a 3 Ltr. Diesel Motor producing a whooping 313 bhp of peak power & 630 Nm of max. torque meshed with 8-Speed Automatic transmission claims an efficiency of 9.52 Kmpl. The M Sports is the highlight of the total 3 offerings with following dimensions (5007mm l) X (1894mm b) X (1392mm h) & Greater WheelBase of 2969mm. Maruti Swift DZire DDiS Vs Honda Amaze i-DTEC - Which Diesel Sedan is a Better Value for Money ??



Japanese auto giant Honda finally launched their first ever Diesel car in India. Amaze is a sub-4 meter sedan which primarily competes with the stand alone champion of the segment, MS Swift DZire & other competitors like Tata Vista, eCS & Mahindra Verito.
So, here is a basic comparison between the wana-be-leader(Amaze) & the leader(DZire) of this sub-4 meter arena.

Exteriors & Over All Styling -


As we all know both the cars are the boot treated derivatives of their respective hatches but in terms of looks & body  propotionality, Amaze keeps an upper hand over the DZire. Where the Honda is well propotioned & looks like an individual product, the DZire gives a feel of Swift with a nonessential quirky boot due to its uneven dimensions. Talking about the dimensional numbers, Amaze measures 3990 mm X 1680 mm X 1505 mm & DZire measures 3995 mm X 1695 mm X 1550 mm. 
So in terms of styling & body dimensions, Thumbs up for the Honda Amaze.

Interiors & Cabin Space -


Interiors of both the opponents possess contrasting characters as the Dzire's interior gives a more plush feel & the interiors of Amaze lands a bit on the descent side. Sound of engine & road in the cabin of Amaze is way more than the DZire which means Dzire has a better cabin sound insulation.
In comparison to hatch-alike 316 ltrs. of DZire's boot, Amaze has a great 400 ltrs. boot space & in terms of cabin space & leg room, Amaze leads the table here again.

The biggest Plus+ Amaze carries over the champion is its ARAI tested mileage which is 25.8 kmpl(best in India till date) as compared to DZire's 23.4 kmpl .

Honda Amaze has finally arrived that too at a starting price of just 4.99 Lakhs !!



Honda Cars India Ltd.(HCIL) finally launched their much anticipated sub-4 meter Sedan 'Amaze' on the 11th of April. Amaze is the Sedan avtaar of the company's successful hatch Brio & the first ever Diesel vehicle from the camp of Japanese Automobile Giant Honda in the country.

Amaze offers both petrol & diesel engine options, the trusted 1.2 ltrs. 4 cylindered SOHC i-VTEC petrol mill that pushes 88 ps @ 6,000 rpm peak power & 109 nm @ 4,500 rpm of peak torque & the other is the revolutionary 1.5 ltrs. 4 cylindered DOHC i-DTEC diesel mill that produces the best in class 100 ps @ 3,600 of peak power & 200 nm @ 1,750 rpm of peak torque. As per company claimings, the sedan delivers 18 kmpl of fuel efficiency for the petrol & 25.7 kmpl for the diesel. An automatic transmission option is also available but only with the top-end petrol variant.



Honda may have priced Amaze competitively but in terms of features the car is loaded with bundle of premium features. Starting from all four power windows, electrical power steering, rear defogger, key less entry, cup holders, 2 DIN integrated music system with AUX- USB & many more utility features which makes it a great package. Talking about the safety features, seat belt reminder, WAVE key, high mount stop central locking & fog lamps are standard across all variants & the ABS-EBD will only be available with the upper models.

Launched at a starting price of  INR 4.99 Lakhs for petrol & INR 5.99 Lakhs for the diesel, Amaze offers four basic manual variants & two automatic ones. Available in six colors - Urban Titanium Metallic, Carnelian Red Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Taffeta White, Alabaster Silver Metallic & the fresh Majestic Blue Metallic.

Kawasaki Ninja 300 launched in India @ INR 3.5 Lakhs !!

 

Bajaj Auto Ltd. launched the much awaited 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 in India at a price tag of INR 3.5 Lakhs which will replace its sibling Ninja 250 r in the country. Inspired from their big dady superbike ZX-10 R, the Indian Ninja 300 looks quite similar to the on-going model of 2013 Ninja 250 r in the international markets.

Factors that differentiate the Ninja 300 from its predecessor are the refreshed front facia incorporating dual headlamps, well equipped digital instrument panel, 50 k increment in pricing, 6 bhp of more power & above everything an all new re-positioned radiator which helps in redirecting the hot air away from the rider.

Powered by a 296cc parallel twin liquid cooled engine which pumps out a great 39 bhp @ 11,000 rpm of peak power & 27 nm @ 10,000 rpm of max. torque mated to a 6 speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. This mini monster does 0-100 in less than just 8 sec. & claims to hit a top speed of 170 km/hr. Its chasis are made up of the high tensile steel tubes that are 150 % more tougher than the 250 r.

The bike doesn't offers an option of ABS but sports disc brakes in both the wheels, 290 mm of disc in the front & a 220 mm disc in the rear. The superbike has a kerb weight of 172 kgs. & a fuel tank capacity of 17 ltrs. Offers a total of two color options - pearl white & lime green & is available at the Bajaj Probiking Showrooms across the country.
